Data collected by the joint European and Russian ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter has revealed potential evidence of ongoing or recent volcanic activity on Mars. Researchers identified signatures in the Martian atmosphere through optical and spectroscopic measurements taken from orbit.

The discovery provides new insight into the geological activity of Mars, suggesting the planet may remain more geologically active than previously assumed.
