NASA's Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory reentered Earth's atmosphere over western Indonesia on Wednesday, concluding almost 22 years of operations in space. The re-entry ended the gamma-ray burst hunter's mission after a failed attempt to rescue the spacecraft.

US Space Force tracking had predicted the observatory would reenter around 3:30 a.m. EST within a band 21 degrees north or south of the equator. The satellite spent more than two decades monitoring gamma-ray bursts before burning up during atmospheric reentry.
