NASA selects PRIMA far infrared space telescope for 2033 launch
The 1.2 billion dollar observatory will use spare parts from Webb to study cosmic origins at far infrared wavelengths.
NASA has selected the PRIMA far infrared mission for development, aiming for a 2033 launch. The 5.9 foot telescope project cost is capped at 1.2 billion dollars, excluding launch and non-project expenses.
PRIMA will leverage hardware built as spare components during the James Webb Space Telescope project to achieve major scientific objectives while reducing overall development costs.
